Our original 5m x 5m Twin Skin system was designed to provide a highly efficient and cost-effective way of insulating a building. So many high quality windows and doors, rooms, and just a students dream in the garden!

This system consists of two walls manufactured from Scots Pine (each Log is 45mm x 115mm / 120mm depending on size of logs used), separated by a 100mm gap for insulation, pipes, wiring and whatever else you want to hide away, then another 44mm, and job done, please watch the video below, this shows you the quality of a Twinskin, and also how ours are far superior to the completion. Also, our system is helpful, as it keeps the walls looking smart and clean.

This system significantly reduces heat loss and can help with building energy efficiency.

Unfortunately, other companies have been using the term “Twin Skin” to refer to various products which do not meet the original criteria of the Twin Skin system. These products often do not provide the same level of insulation or protective barrier as the original Twin Skin system.

We applaud companies that are looking for innovative ways to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, but we recommend that customers looking for a true Twin Skin system should be aware of the differences between the original Twin Skin system and other products that are referred to as Twin Skin.

PVC windows and doors in a Twinskin log cabin are a terrible choice for both the windows and doors and for heat loss. They are prone to cracking, particularly in cold temperatures and are ill-suited for the job as they are not designed to be used in this type of cabin. Furthermore, they are inefficient at keeping out cold air, resulting in excessive heat loss from the cabin. It is therefore recommended to use other materials such as wood or metal for the windows and doors of a Twinskin log cabin to reduce heat loss, improve security and ensure optimal performance.

Joinery glulam windows and doors are superior for Twinskin log cabins because they are far more durable and long-lasting than other materials. Joinery glulam windows and doors are made from cross-laminated timber, which is strong and stable, and can withstand harsh weather conditions. This makes them perfect for use in Twinskin log cabins, as they will not warp, twist, or crack in extreme temperatures. Joinery glulam is also less prone to condensation and the build-up of mildew and mould, which is a common problem with plastic and metal frames. In addition, joinery glulam frames are designed to move with the building, which helps to prevent structural damage over time.

It is not a good idea to put up an insulated barrier on the outside or inside of a log cabin, twin or single, as it can lead to structural damage to the barrier and cabin. Log cabins are designed to move, shrink, and sway with changes in the environment. Insulated barriers, such as those made of foam or fiberglass, are not designed to move in the same way that a log cabin does. As a result, the insulated barrier may become detached from the cabin, causing structural damage to the cabin. Additionally, the insulation may not be able to adequately protect against temperature changes, leading to further damage.

It is true that fitting windows and doors in a cabin with a log wall and a solid wall can be under huge strain when the logs expand or shrink. Unfortunately, companies that offer this kind of insulation method don’t always explain how it is an unhealthy way to have a single skin insulated, and this can lead to a lot of profit for them. It is important to be aware of this before considering such an insulation method. One should always look for advice from a professional before making any decisions.

Product testing is an important process for ensuring that the windows and doors fit securely and uniformly into the twin skin. This helps to ensure that the system is not under any unnecessary strain or pressure, which can lead to damage and reduced efficiency. The product testing process includes carefully measuring and testing the components of the system to make sure that everything fits correctly and is working properly. Additionally, product testing also involves checking for any potential air or water leakage and ensuring that the thermal properties of the system are up to standard. By undergoing product testing, we can ensure that our windows and doors are of the highest quality and meet all industry standards.
